You have to put your minnow about a foot or foot and a half from bottom. Because of where a Pikes eyes are located, He will not attack anything below him, he can't see it. Kapt Ron is right about using a line marker. He uses a button but you can buy tiny line marker bobbers. Don't forget to compensate for how much ice you have. After you set your tip up, If there is still let's say 6 inches of ice below your reel, you have to take up that much more line before you put your line marker on, if not you are going to sit on bottom. ggod luck, stay on top
