SUBJECT    :Cheshire Lake
REPORTER : Jon
POSTED      : 09:00:12 01/17/2001
To all you diehard icefisherman living in Mass. I have icefished Cheshire Lake for about 10 years. It is loaded with Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike up to 20 pounds, Perch, Crappie, and Bluegills. The lake was just cleaned of weeds for the first time in MANY years. If you have any questions about this lake, feel free to drop me a question at my email address. Jon

To all anglers of Ma. Would'nt it be nice if some of the money we spend in taxes and licenses could be returned in the form of a special ice fishing season on quabbin. Ther is no reason that the ice thickness could'nt be monitored by the employees already being paid to run the regular fishing season. If I can get enough interest generated by this web site I will file a formal petition to see if The Mass. Fish And Wildlife department actually works for us.

I've been ice fishing winni for a long time (over 15 years). I am looking forward to an early ice-in this year. I fish the annual derby with a big group every year. We do it now more for the fun and comradery than we used to. We're still trying hard to catch fish, but every year we get one or two more guys to go and they keep coming back. In 1986 there were two of us fishing hard with no shelter from the wind & cold. This year we should be over ten people and we are building a new shanty right now. This thing is mammoth. It will definitely impact our mobility, but it will increase our comfort level. I'll keep you posted with winni ice conditions. Good Luck & Have fun!

PS: Be safe, not stupid when it comes to thin ice!

I believe we will have a pre-christmas ice season this year in western mass. I am focused this year on catching some ct river walleye. I plan on fishing some of the back bays and oxbows on the river. I hope that this year is better than last year we had a very short ice season. Good luck to all, cant wait to see that first high flag!

I've been looking at icefishing websites. There are not many yet. This one is the best I have found. I hope everyone takes the time to send in their reports and make this site the place to be when off the ice. I too believe we will see a December ice and hopefully a sustained ice this season. Here in southern New England we often loose the ice before winter's end. My little group called the "ICE EAGLES" targets trout, bass, perch, crappie, pickerel, and pike. Methods do not always work "as well" in different areas of the "ice belt", but we will be glad to share our results, methods, and photos and hope you all will too. I look forward to making some new friends on this website this season, and I can't wait for the first yell of "TIP UP!" Good luck to all and please share the magic of the ice with someone this year!
