POSTED      : 20:47:45 01/01/2002
fished 12/30 for 6 hours. got two pike 22" and 26" with about 8 or 9 more flags. several fish ran and ran and ran and couldnt get a hookset. ice was about 5 inches at the time. many other fish caught around us. even more fish caught fri. and sat.

also fished 1/1 for three hours after pushing the "ice caddy" out. ice was a good 8+". got two flags, one fish dropped and the other ripped off my shiner. saw a few other fish caught and some guys next to us were doing good on the gills kinda by the sand bar.

personally i think this may be a good year, judging by the start.

There were two vehicles that went in this week on the landing!!! Keep away from the weeds, there are still some people going out by skirting the dock, this area is getting BAD also, there is two feet of water that has been on the ice for almost two weeks now at the landing and with all the salt its getting eatin up.

SUBJECT    :Crappies!
REPORTER : Scott
POSTED      : 05:28:27 01/06/2001
Some nice 13" crappies can be caught in 26-34 feet of water suspended normally around 16-18 feet down. Use a waxworm and #10 green teardrop on a light whippy rod. Keep what you can eat and let the rest go for another day!

SUBJECT    :Saturday/Sunday
REPORTER : Rob
POSTED      : 08:58:03 01/02/2001
Saturday: Alot of small perch in the 6-7inch range and a few small gills. Once I found a hot hole, they came one after another. Only fished for a couple hours in the morning.

Sunday: 2 flags that resulted in 2 small northern (20inch range). Couldn't find a hot hole like Saturday but still had fair action catching the same 6-7inch perch.

Tip-ups were set in 11-13ft and I jigged in mainly 14-15 feet.

How's the night fishing for crappies and walleyes? Best spot by the inlet and underwater point? Going out posibly this weekend to give it a try. Tight lines to all.

SUBJECT    :Ice Fishing
REPORTER : Spinner
POSTED      : 10:14:52 12/20/2000
Was out last weekend, straight put from the landing
in 12 - 15 ft of water. Lots of small perch.

Is most of the action on this lake near the crowds
of shanty's?

SUBJECT    :Ice Conditions
REPORTER : Scott
POSTED      : 13:20:46 12/19/2000
Most of the lake has ONLY 9" of ice! I would wait
a week or two before crossing the lake anywhere.
Vehicles have gone through on White Clay before!
Over the years people tend to forget. Not more than
10-15 years ago people were very paranoid about
driving on 20" of ice! on white clay.
With the fluffy snow cover and old holes flooding,
double layer ice can form this stuff is bad news
There are a couple of springs in the lake so be very
wary!

SUBJECT    :Ice depth
REPORTER : Travis
POSTED      : 09:29:06 12/19/2000
Tommy, the ice is about 12". I saw quite a few people driving out on it, including full size trucks. You won't find this cat driving out there yet!!

SUBJECT    :Ice Depth
REPORTER : Tommy
POSTED      : 08:44:31 12/19/2000
I'll be heading out on White Clay this weekend and next week. I was just wondering how thick the ice is. Doubt it is thick enough to drive out on yet. I have a trailer at White Clay (2nd from boatlanding), and know the lake well, just wondering about the ice depth

SUBJECT    :Wish I had fished White Clay instead of Shawano
REPORTER : Rob
POSTED      : 09:30:29 12/18/2000
Based upon the reports, I wish I had fished White Clay Lake instead of Shawano Lake off the County Park.

I put the shanty out on White Clay a ways and anchored it on Friday, too much snow for me to pull it all the way out with just my 4 wheeler. I saw a couple vehicles on the lake and decided to take the 4 wheeler out a ways and check the ice depth before pulling the shanty farther with the truck. Not sure what those trucks were thinking but I wouldn't drive on it (8-9inches where I checked, a short ways north of the group off the lodge).

SUBJECT    :'Gills
REPORTER : Travis
POSTED      : 05:57:19 12/18/2000
Thanks for the help Scott. We did pretty good Saturday. Got close to three limits of nice gills, and a few crappies to boot. One nice Northern and about 15 perch. No monstrous fish, but those aren't the good eating fish anyways. Like you said waxworms is all we needed. Tried spikes and mosies, but the waxies produced the most and biggest fish.

SUBJECT    :Bait n place
REPORTER : Scott
POSTED      : 07:46:21 12/15/2000
Travis,

Waxworms will catch all the fish white clay has to
offer. For a start try the 13' hole out in front of the
lodge. Use 1#-2# test #12 green tear drop and head hook
the waxie... KILLER! Keep some to eat and let those BIG
slabbo 9-10 inchers go, to catch another day!

Good Luck!

REPORTER : Travis
POSTED      : 06:06:06 12/15/2000
Going out tomorrow morning for awhile to give it a try for bluegills, crappies, and perch. I was wondering if anyone can help me out on the baits(waxies, mousies, spikes, minnows) and places to fish to help me get started. I'll post report on Monday on how the fishing was. Thanks for the help and good luck fishing this weekend.

SUBJECT    :Going up tomorrow to put shanty out
REPORTER : Rob
POSTED      : 09:03:51 12/14/2000
Jon, I would like to know the depth that you caught the perch and crappie in as well as time of day like Spinner asked. South side is a big area on any lake.

For everyone else, I'm going up for the weekend tomorrow to put the shanty out and fish White Clay and Shawano. I'll get the info and areas/depths from my own experience and what I gather from the others out there and post them when I get back.
