Problem with Vex FL8 SE
« on: Dec 14, 2019, 09:09 PM »
I was using my vexilar on a short outing yesterday afternoon and about halfway through it started to just stop working occasionally and the "screen" would go dark. If I gave it a tap or hit it gently it would sometimes come back on.  I don't think it should have been out of battery and all connections were fine, has anyone had this problem? What could be happening? Is it easily fixable? any input is appreciated.  Thanks

I would confirm battery is good first.try a different one or hook up the charger to the battery and run it.see if problem persists.

Clean your battery connectors first. Had that problem a while back.

Agree with possible bad battery, connections aren’t clean, or maybe a bad or broken wire. I had a bad battery on mine, and it acted a lot like what you’re describing. In any case, if these suggestions don’t solve the problem, service should be the next step. Let us know what you find out.

In addition to what others have mentioned:

How old is the unit? It could be the brushes/slip rings. You can go online to get instructions on how to clean them. I did it with my original FL-8 and remember it was quite simple.

How old is the battery? Important to remember that it should be charged about once a month during the off season to maintain good working condition.

This might help too...

Before doing anything I would call Vexilar Tech Support. I can't remember the gentleman's name but he has been with them for years. Just tell him what your unit is doing and he will be able to tell you what to do to fix it.

Good luck!

Thanks to all! I checked the connections tonight, need to test the battery and look into the brush several of you speak of.

Yep., 99% of the time it's the battery. Vexilar units are outstandingly durable. BTW, Vexilar has great Customer Service & a superb repair department.
